Background

In our 2018 article, “Solving the NetSuite Aged Inventory Challenge”, we highlighted the limitations of NetSuite’s native tools in generating true aged inventory reports. While NetSuite’s Saved Searches can approximate aging by filtering recent item receipts, they simply fall short in accurately representing on-hand inventory over time.

Further clarifying this issue, our 2020 article, “Distinguish between NetSuite Inventory Aging and Activity Reports”, emphasized the distinction between transaction activity reports and genuine inventory aging. The former tracks movements, while the latter assesses how long inventory remains unsold, a critical metric for financial health and operational efficiency.

The challenge is that Saved Search is not strong enough to get the data out in the way that inventory analysts need it.
