This article is relevant if you are trying to perform a NetSuite bank reconciliation and you wish to upload a bank file to clear transactions.
Background
While working to perform NetSuite driven bank reconciliation, you may want to take advantage of the “Import Online Banking Data” feature. This feature allows you to take an electronic bank download of account transactions and upload them to NetSuite so that you can clear transactions. This clearing can help the account reconciliation process.
Recently, when trying to upload account transaction data from Wells Fargo into NetSuite, we received the Unexpected Error message. NetSuite “Unexpected Error” messages are difficult to diagnose and often requires contacting NetSuite Support who have better tools to diagnose the situation. In our case, there is an issue in the way that NetSuite parses Wells Fargo QFX files.
Suggested Fix for QFX Data Upload into NetSuite
Working with NetSuite Support, we learned that we need to modify the file contents of the download to add a line break between “100” and “DATA” at the string: “OFXHEADER:100DATA”. Assuming you are in Windows and using the Notepad editor, here is the procedure.
- Save the qfx file on your computer.
- Open the qfx file in Notepad
- Create a line break as follows:
– OLD: OFXHEADER:100DATA…
– NEW: OFXHEADER:100
DATA… - Click File > Save as
- Save as type: All Files; File extension: .qfx
If all works out, upload the revised file to NetSuite and things will work.
Notes for NetSuite Release 2019.2
As of this writing, the Release Notes for 2019.2 have been published and it appears that the financial import subsystem will give you more control by offering a “Format Profile” configuration to drive the parser. Thus, this specific challenge should become easier to solve. I look forward to learning how this technology works especially because I see an opportunity to fully automate the process of downloading and importing without human intervention.
