Tip: Solve NetSuite File Drag and Drop Record Inactivation

CRM General Infrastructure NetSuite

This article is relevant if you are trying to activate the NetSuite File Drag and Drop SuiteApp.

Background

For a recent new NetSuite implementation, we were tailoring the Opportunity record form layout to make it simple-to-understand for our client’s sales force day-to-day use. As a quick side, we feel that CRM implementations are often risky because the consequences of inconsistent application usage are not nearly as consequential as they become once we start to work with the Sales Order and downstream record types. Check out my article series, What makes NetSuite’s CRM Unique for Producing Successful Implementations?

We installed the free NetSuite SuiteApp File Drag and Drop Bundle (#41309) and activated it to work globally on all records (the basic configuration). It seemed to be working as expected. Yet, for some reason, the File Drag and Drop functionalities were not activated on the Opportunity record.

NetSuite File Drag and Drop Requires User Notes Sublist

After some inquiries and checks of the script deployments and permissions considerations, we thought it made sense to check the SuiteAnswers system for extra “Support Articles” on File Drag and Drop. The clue was article #79355 which was about using Drag and Drop on custom records.

Make sure the User Notes sublist is not hidden by your custom form definition. See related images. Once we re-activated the user notes sublists, the File Drag and Drop returned. We did not need to make any changes to permissions as suggested by the article.

Work with Strong NetSuite Talent

Because NetSuite is quite robust, it’s difficult to know everything about the application. In my mind, professionals that have a strong understanding of database theory on top of fundamental business mechanics coupled with years of NetSuite implementation and innovation experience are very valuable when holding leadership roles in this subject matter. Perhaps it makes sense to work with professionals well grounded in NetSuite mechanics and who have the maturity to listen and guide? If you agree, let’s have a conversation.

    Hey Marty,

Long time listener first time caller. I have a rather simple question. Is there anyway to change the text in the DnD box that says “Drag files here. Click for more options”? This long prompt sometime will get in the way of other action buttons on certain records depending on the user’s screen size.

    Let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hi Tom,

I don’t know. We probably would have to hack at it…
