NetSuite Flexible Saved Search Inline Edit Filters

Infrastructure NetSuite Technical

This article is essential for NetSuite administrators and developers looking for a method to create filter definitions in a NetSuite fully flexible inline edit feature.

Background

In 2018, I wrote an article, Solved: NetSuite Inline Edits That Really Work!, demonstrating that it is possible to create NetSuite Saved Searches that enable edits on every field. The article addresses the frustration of creating saved searches, displaying them on NetSuite form sublists, and then discovering that users cannot fully edit some fields.

Recently, we enhanced the NetSuite Flexible Inline Edits to include filter definitions. Similar to NetSuite filters, this enhancement allows us to filter our now editable NetSuite lists further.

Viewing NetSuite Editable Saved Searches

To quickly illustrate, below is a screenshot (click to enlarge) of a NetSuite saved search acting as a sublist on a form. Attaching a saved search as a sublist to a form is a powerful way to create a fully informed user experience for greater application usefulness. However, as most NetSuite Administrators understand, and as my 2018 article illustrates, some fields can be frustratingly non-editable.

In that article, I supply a short 4:24 video showing the ability to edit all the fields.

Now, with the addition of filter definitions, we gain even more flexibility, bringing us closer to what a NetSuite Administrator may consider essential for optimizing user experiences. See the image below for an illustration.

The great part of this system is that it doesn’t require any scripting. Instead, we use a well-defined structure of application settings to drive the functionality of Flexible Inline Edit. In gratitude, Matthew M., Senior Technical Analyst in our Technology Practice, outlines this enhancement and explains the definitions of application settings.

Once administrators understand the setting structure, they can create as many Flexible Inline Edits as needed for their end-user community.
