This week’s article deviates from my usual format. Regular readers will notice the absence of a NetSuite solution discussion.
In Memory of a Great Man Serving Iraq
It is with profound sadness that I share the loss of our client, Karam Saridar, in an Iranian missile attack on January 17, 2024. His family, friends, staff, and community are reeling from this senseless tragedy.
Karam was a tireless servant to the citizens of Iraq, believing and demonstrating that he could enhance Iraqi lives through honest trade. His company, a beacon of employment and innovation, sustained 150 people in Erbil alone, a testament to his reach and impact.
Visionary eCommerce Capacities Powered with a NetSuite Backend
In early 2020, Karam approached us to support his visionary concept: introducing 21st-century e-commerce to Iraqi citizens. He recognized NetSuite’s potential to bring this vision to life.
Together, we crafted a NetSuite implementation tailored to Iraq’s unique challenges – from its cash-based economy transitioning to electronic credit, to the ubiquitous use of mobile phones. Our solution enabled a sophisticated automated logistics system, seamlessly connecting drivers, goods, and funds across Iraq’s cities and countryside.
Karam’s insight into his customers’ needs drove our innovation as we labored alongside him to mold NetSuite to his vision. It was a privilege to work so closely with him, admiring his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication.
Our Connection to Karam
Our relationship with Karam extended beyond professional bounds. Remarkably, his daughter and mine share the same birthday, a serendipitous connection that always amazed me. Often, during our late-night video calls, Karam would cradle his daughter in his arms, a loving father balancing his ambitious entrepreneurial goals.
Every member of the Prolecto team felt Karam’s warmth and generosity. His respectful and selfless demeanor made it so very easy to collaborate and serve his vision. We owe a debt of gratitude to our families who have supported us as we have endeavored to create a better world alongside clients like Karam.
Our Loss and Grieving
The news of Karam’s passing on Wednesday morning, delivered by Sean G., our Senior Analyst, struck us with disbelief and sorrow. As a firm, we took time to process this loss, each team member expressing their grief and extending heartfelt condolences to Karam’s family and staff.
I hope this article will be a step towards healing, a collective expression of our mourning.
Diversity Transcended
Working with Karam and his team, we brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared purpose. Our conversations transcended work, delving into personal lives and aspirations, with politics never clouding our interactions.
I only discovered Karam’s Arab Christian heritage through this tragedy. As a Jew, I reflect on the turbulent Middle East landscape, where such differences often divide. Yet, in our collaboration, these distinctions were irrelevant – we were bound by mutual respect and commitment, thriving in an environment of harmony and shared goals.
Our Commitment to Service
Karam’s legacy will unfold over time as we continue to uncover the breadth of his influence. His family, friends, and organization deserve our unwavering support as they forge new paths. His vision was coming to life, and there remains much to accomplish to fully realize his dreams.
One extraordinary man has made an indelible mark on this world. Speaking for my firm, we are privileged to serve leaders like Karam. We are grateful to the NetSuite leadership for their steadfast commitment to the platform, enabling us to connect and build real-world solutions that elevate standards of living and support individual pursuits.
I had always hoped to break bread with Karam, a dream that would require seizing a rare opportunity. This message is a tribute to Karam’s family, friends, organization, and community. Let us strive for a world where we cherish and preserve life, regardless of background, as our highest value.
Karam’s legacy of hope, innovation, and unity lives on. May we honor his vision by continuing to build bridges and uplift lives. Heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
A touching tribute to Karam and the legacy he has left. I was shocked and very saddened to have heard of his sudden, tragic death. I only knew him for a year when we studied together at Bath University but he made an impact on me and the very many of us in our class that he interacted with. A terrible loss, especially for his family. Condolences to all who mourn his passing. RIP Karam.
