Getting NetSuite Inline Edit to work for Alternative Roles

Here’s a NetSuite tip for activating the Inline edit feature.  The documentation is good but fails to discuss that the field must be present on the preferred form definition.  This can easily confuse NetSuite power users because you may be in a situation where you know you have activated Inline Edit to work for one role and then you want it to work for another role that effectively has similar permissions.  The frustration is that you can’t get the inline edit to activate.  Instead, the field shows up as read-only.

If the preferred form for the alternative NetSuite role does not have the field defined as editable, then the inline edit will not work.
